WHO WE SERVE

“My first year at Gateway, I was very shy. I didn’t want to accept the fact I would be the only one in 7th grade, I did not want to be around a big crowd, and I thought I would be ok if I would just hang out with the people I chose to hang out with, mainly my old classmates. I alsvo would repeat words and actions which would later get to the point where I would annoy everyone.

When I started high school, Gateway helped me realize that being around different people in big events is the biggest way where I can make more friends and a way to give out encouragement. Eventually, I joined a few great clubs, drama, leadership, and athlete editions, which lead me to having a friend group, and later be an absolute trustworthy senior house leader and representative.

At graduation, when I walked on that stage, I got to show how I outgrew from a shy middle schooler to a confident high school graduate. Then, the moment I realized I won the Gryphon Award for 2024, that was the most incredible accomplishment I have received.

Gateway has shown me that getting used to change, and being around more people, would help me grow into a mature hardworking young adult, which I still carry with me.”

"During my time in high school, Gateway helped me acknowledge and identify my strengths. It would have been so much easier to go to school close to home, where I have my friends and family nearby. However, the more challenging decision (by my standards) was choosing to attend a school 1500 miles away that offers a major I am truly passionate about. The support I received from my Gateway family gave me the confidence to make that difficult choice, allowing me to pursue something I deeply care about—Art Therapy. This experience has not only shaped my academic journey but has also given me a clear sense of purpose and direction for the future. The lessons I've learned, both in and out of the classroom, have reinforced my belief in the power of following my passion, even when the path seems uncertain."
